Welcome
Thank you for visiting www.oboebitz.com. Feel free to contact me for oboe lessons or performance & recording opportunities on oboe or english horn. A good musical foundation is so important for any oboe student. Whether you are preparing for a college audition, for your NYSSMA solo, or simply love playing in a chamber music ensemble or in your local orchestra or band, I can help you establish a solid daily practice routine and inspire your progress. I am currently accepting oboe and reed making students of all ages and levels of ability.
Oboe Inspiration
As a child, I was first drawn to the organic sound of the oboe as it soared through the beautiful woodland campus of Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts. It was the sweet sound of lengendary oboist, Lois Wann playing an excerpt for her student. Ever since that July day, there was no looking back. Lois Wann (one of the first prominent woman Principal Oboists of a major symphony in the US in the 1930's...San Diego Symphony, Pittsburgh Sumphony, St. Louis Symphony and NYC Ballet Orchestra) inspired me to begin my musical journey as an oboist as she encouraged my studies at The Juilliard School and the Yale School of Music. I was proud to be her last oboe student at The Juilliard School in 1992 when she retired. I continued on with oboe masters including Ronald Roseman, John Ferillo, Elaine Douvas and Bert Lucarelli.
